Handel: Semele, HWV 58 (Live)
Handel’s musical drama Semele was first performed in 1744, and was first recorded by John Eliot Gardiner in the early 1980s. Almost 40 years on, Gardiner and his ensembles the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists returned to the work for a European tour in Spring 2019. This live recording was made in London during that tour. Soprano Louise Alder takes the title role. Gramophone Editor's Choice
