Love? Homage to Clara Schumann
Pianist Yaara Tal’s album marks Clara Schumann’s 200th anniversary with works from both her and her artistic circle. Theodor Kirchner and Julie von Webenau were students of Clara and her husband Robert, and their works included here include Webenau’s Morceaux de fantaisie, a world premiere recording. Clara herself is represented by the Three Romances op. 11. Two pieces by her close friend Brahms complete the album: the Variations on a Theme by Robert Schumann op. 23 for two pianists (Tal and her duo partner Andreas Groethuysen), and the Alto Rhapsody op. 53, newly arranged for tenor, women’s chorus and piano. It is performed by Tal with tenor Julian Prégardien and the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
