Mahler: Symphony No. 1 in D Major "Titan" (Hamburg-Weimar 1893-94 Version)
Period instrument specialists Les Siècles and their conductor François-Xavier Roth perform the rarely played second version of Mahler's First Symphony. Entitled "Titan", the "Hamburg/Weimar" version of 1893–94 is a "tone poem in the form of a symphony", bridging the gap between the first version, a symphonic poem first performed in 1889, and the familiar version of the symphony, premiered in 1896. The recording offers a chance to explore the compositional development of the young Mahler.
