Balanas and Kohn perform sonatas by Leoš Janáček and César Franck
About this event
Virtuosic, lastingly original works by two composers for whom success proved elusive – the violin sonatas of César Franck and Leoš Janáček are now canonic and definitive works of chamber music, yet rarely heard together. For their IDAGIO Global Concert Hall debut, Kristīne Balanas and Eloïse Bella Kohn trace a line from imperial Brussels to Brno on the eve of the First World War – by the time Janáček’s great work was premiered in 1922, the face of Europe had changed completely and the Romantic era so vividly immortalized in Franck’s Violin Sonata became a dusty memory.
Violinist Kristīne Balanas, born in Latvia, based in Berlin, is an international virtuoso sensation, performing with the world’s leading orchestras. Kristīne has appeared as a soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, amongst others. Her head-turning transformation from a street musician and Rock-n-Roll singer in Latvia to a graduate with honours of the Royal Academy of Music marks her as an entirely idiosyncratic presence on the stage.
Eloïse Bella Kohn is a regular guest of Europe's most prominent concert venues and festivals, among which, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Berlin Philharmonie, Vienna Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Konserthuset Stockholm, Müpa Budapest, and countless others. Having received a Young Talent award from the renowned cultural magazine Diapason in 2016 and a "Yamaha Artist" since 2018, the young French pianist shows an extraordinary depth of musicality and is leading a promising career.
Their IDAGIO Global Concert Hall debut also marks their first professional collaboration together.
This stream is available to watch until December 31, 2022.
