Baroque Christmas: Music of Corelli and Stradella – BEMF Vocal & Chamber Ensembles

About this event
Join the GRAMMY-winning Boston Early Music Festival for a holiday program showcasing masterworks from the Italian Baroque by Arcangelo Corelli and Alessandro Stradella. Acclaimed Musical Directors Paul O’Dette and Stephen Stubbs and Concertmaster Robert Mealy lead the all-star BEMF Vocal & Chamber Ensembles in two Christmas Cantatas by Stradella alongside Corelli’s cherished Christmas Concerto. Infamously assassinated when he was just 43, Stradella had a roguish personal life filled with scandalous affairs; his professional life, though, was prolific and influential – he wrote more than 170 cantatas and originated the concerto grosso form made famous by Corelli and Handel. Stradella’s two cantatas written for Christmastime are exquisite and richly colorful works, here performed by a magnificent cast of singers, including GRAMMY-winning tenor Aaron Sheehan, GRAMMY-nominees Teresa Wakim, soprano, and Jesse Blumberg, baritone, as well as beloved sopranos Amanda Forsythe and Danielle Reutter-Harrah, countertenor Nathan Medley, and bass-baritone Douglas Williams. The concert is presented in partnership with GBH Music and recorded at the GBH Fraser Performance Studio in Boston.
Generously sponsored by Ann and Graham Gund
