Brahms: Three Song Recitals – Mathis, Fassbaender, Schreier, McDaniel, Engel, Medjimorec
About this event
Johannes Brahms is perhaps best-known for his great symphonies, concertos and his German Requiem, in which he managed, more than any other composer, to fuse the intellectual clarity of thought of the classical composers with the emotional outpourings of the Romantic period. He also dedicated himself to the writing of songs, particularly part-songs, with the earnestness that characterises his finest works. The pieces performed in these three programmes bear witness to the tremendous care Brahms took over the composition of these charming and simple settings.
