Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra: Pintscher Premiere & Rachmaninoff
About this event
CSO Creative Partner Matthias Pintscher and close collaborator, violinist Leila Josefowicz, premiere Pintscher's brand new concerto, written for the CSO. The concerto is an outgrowth of La Linea Evocativa, a work Pintscher wrote for Josefowicz in fall 2020. Assonanza, Italian for “assonance,” refers to the repetition of a similar vowel sound in literature or poetry. In this concerto, the soloist is the main thread of motivic and thematic generation, and the resonance chamber of the orchestra repeats and varies these ideas and vice versa. The two characters have a longing and a desire to become one, and two-thirds of the way through the concerto, the closest thing to oneness can be heard.
Completing the program is Sergei Rachmaninoff’s spirited Symphonic Dances—the composers final complete work and his “last spark.” The highly colorful work ends with a triumphant setting of the Dies irae.
This stream is available to watch until December 31, 2023.
