About this event

A programme of music to soothe the soul and inspire us as we look forward to better times. We give a belated nod to the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Voyage with a short trip to the New World, including some Latin American Baroque favourites, after which we stay at home with glorious music from the British Isles.

Alec Roth’s Earthrise expresses the awe of our planet when seen against the enormity of space, Shakespeare reminds us that “We are such stuff as dreams are made on”, and St Aidan seeks a place of “joy, light and hospitality”.

Ex Cathedra is a leading UK choir and Early Music ensemble with a repertoire that reaches from the 12th to the 21st centuries. Under founder and artistic director Jeffrey Skidmore, it has developed an international reputation for its performances of Early Music, including from the Latin American and French Baroque. It is proud of its reputation for championing new music, from Stockhausen at the BBC Proms to commissions from James MacMillan, Sally Beamish, Roxanna Panufnik, Liz Dilnot Johnson and several major works from Alec Roth.
