Krzysztof Penderecki 1933-2020
With this playlist we pay tribute to Krzysztof Penderecki, a giant of contemporary music both in his native Poland and across the musical world. Born in 1933, Penderecki began composing in experimental styles before increasingly turning to traditional forms. He cemented many lasting collaborations with great performers, not least with the German star violinist Anne Sophie Mutter. His music, deeply rooted in his Polish identity and defined by searing intensity and honesty, was listened to around the world and reached an even broader audience after it featured in such classic films as 'The Shining' and 'The Exorcist'.
